“Decarbonising is the mobility industry’s biggest transformation yet. We support our clients winning through sustainable innovation”

Why is decarbonizing mobility important?

In the last century, the world has seen an unprecedented increase in individual mobility. However, this growth has not been sustainable, and mobility is now one of the main sources of greenhouse gas emissions, contributing significantly to climate change. Scientific evidence shows that we must decarbonize everything we do to combat climate change, and we are already behind schedule. Given that people will continue to need mobility, our vision to make mobility sustainable is the only way forward. We believe that the urgent need for action along the entire mobility value chain will drive innovation, and we help our clients make the right decisions to leverage this innovation process towards their strategic goals.

How does Strategy Engineers support clients in tackling sustainability challenges?

We collaborate with established players and new entrants in the industry to develop business models geared towards sustainability. We craft brand positionings and strategies for implementing winning vehicle portfolios. Our projects yield technology strategies for engineering and production to bring these portfolios to market, and we support in running the projects to ensure their execution in time, cost, and quality. For example, in our most recent project, we developed the target market positioning for a start-up focused on battery cell production at Giga-scale. We created a business case, drafted the necessary organization to make the business case happen, evaluated technology partners, negotiated a license agreement with one of them, mapped out the requirements of the production process, and set up the purchasing of equipment and materials.

Will battery electric vehicles be the solution for achieving net-zero mobility?

For passenger cars, the answer is yes, and most likely for trucks as well. From a global perspective, the end-to-end energy efficiency of electric mobility powered by batteries is unmatched. In Europe, this means that we need to rethink our energy generation, energy-related infrastructure, and ultimately our mobility habits. We must also make sure that every scarce raw material imported stays in the loop. This is why we need to right-size our vehicles, change mobility habits, and set up circular value chains through comprehensive recycling.
